Description

The Chapter master of the Spirit Bearers, the Master of Spirits, the Magister Spirituum. Chapter Master Petros Castellum is the founder of the Soul Bearers chapter. He once was among the most zealous of the Black Templar, bearing the black sword and armor of the Emperor's Champion on multiple occasions. However, after a battle against demons of Khorn, he was left half dead, and his men who followed him were killed. He was drug from the field, the apothecaries doubting that the battle brother would survive. Yet survive he did, despite needing extensive cybernetic prosthetics for both legs and his right arm. He was in a coma for 3 months, and was about to be harvested for his gene seed when he awoke.

The High Marshal Ludoldus was summoned to see Brother Petros, and when he arrived, he found the man speaking in the holy word of the God Emperor, his eyes glowing gold as he spoke of sacred duties and of the visage that he had received of the God Emperor himself while he lay in his coma. His voice carried a power and truth which could not be denied, as if he was speaking as the mouth piece of the Emperor. The High Marshal knelt before him, and listened to what was said by the newly awakened brother. Of all that was said, only the High Marshal truly knows, for he alone was with Petros as he spoke, a single servitor writing all that was said. Upon completion, Petros fell back, the light in his eyes gone, returning again to a coma. The writing of the servitor was bound and sealed, and the High Marshal destroyed it shortly after.

Brother Petros soon awoke again. He spoke not a word as he rose, and sealed himself inside the artificers' chamber aboard the Eternal Crusader. For three weeks he did not emerge, only the sound of hammering ringing through the chamber, day and night. When he reemerged from the chamber, his power armor had been made bone white, with the exception of the left pauldron, which was painted black, bearing a white cross like that of the Templars. Purity seals adorned the armor, bearing the names of his fallen men. Still, he did not speak. Even as he approached the High Marshal, not a word he uttered.

Yet no words were necessary for the High Marshal, it seemed. He presented the brother with one of the holy relic swords of the Emperor's Champion, and told him to go forth and fulfill his calling, and should the Emperor smile upon his effort, he would be granted all upon his return. The stalwart Petros arose, took the sword, and strode out, still mute. He returned  to the world of his defeat, sword in hand, and without backup, strode forth into the demon infested lands. What happened there, only he knows, but when he returned, the demon hordes had vanished, and he bore the heads of three greater demons.

When he returned to the High Marshal, he was given a saint's welcoming. Still, Brother Petros was mute, even as the High Marshal decreed that his mission had been holy, and that he had recieved the God Emperor's true blessing. The High Marshal then decreed that his mission had been completed, and that he had redeemed his fallen brothers' souls. It was only then that Petros spoke, and only briefly, stating that all must be granted him, as was promised. The High Marshal bowed, causing much speculation among the other Templars. What was meant?

They did not have to wait long to find out. The High Marshal decreed that from thence forth, Brother Petros would be known as the Soul Bearer, and shall lead forth many men bearing the same title, to complete their holy mission. Thus was born the Soul Bearers, and the start of the Legacy of Petros Castellum.

He still is the chapter master of the Soul Bearers, despite nearly 1000 years having passed from their founding. Ever since those few words spoken upon the Eternal Crusader, he has been mute, speaking only through a brother known as the mouth, who reads his writing for the chapter. He has never been seen out of his armor since he sealed himself away inside the artificers' chambers before the founding. He wears artificer MK III armor, and bears the power sword given to him by High Marshal Ludoldus.

Rumors abound that the real Petros Castellum actually died long ago, but that when the previous Chapter Master dies, the new one quietly takes on his name and role, taking a vow of silence.
